Firsts
I love airports but I have always gotten lost in them. Heading back home, I was somehow mistaken for first class and offered to hang out in the lounge and enjoy tea. This didn't last long, but I enjoyed the few minutes it did.
Tinto de Verano is a mixed drink containing wine. It was the first time I ever tried it and I loved it! If you do visit Spain, make sure to try it.
I never really went on a hike, especially with a group of people! Coming from a very industrial city like Houston, I think it was a nice change to be able to enjoy the outdoors more.
The customs line in Madrid is no joke. After waiting 3 hours in a line (at which point I had long missed my flight), I ran around the whole airport desperate for help. This, obviously, is not my proudest "first". Even with a language barrier, I was able to reschedule my flight to Santander. I don't know how or why, but it was upgraded to first class. I guess missing your flight isn't always that bad.
This was my first time seeing the process behind making wine and trying it straight from the source. The wine was amazing and the tapas they provided even more so!
I haven't been on a vacation much less on a plane in maybe 15 years since my trip to Spain! It was such an exciting moment being able to fly again.
I never travel, so experiencing a flight delay was beyond stressful. I honestly did not expect to make it to Spain on time. If I could go back in time, I'd definitely tell myself to calm down! Inconveniences will occur, but the airport staff did an amazing job at figuring everything out.
This was my first time seeing a lighthouse and it did not disappoint! They're just as beautiful in real life as they are in paintings and movies.
I've always seen sunset for land, but seeing it from the sky was amazing!!! I couldn't stop staring out of the window my whole time going to Spain.
Thanks to the Gilman Scholarship and The University of Texas, I had the chance to have many firsts in just my short amount of time in Spain. In my six weeks in Santander I experienced more than I expected to and grew so much from it! Here are just some of the memorable firsts (or firsts since a long time) from this trip abroad.
